Product Spotlight: Data Assurance

Learn how Measurabl can help you verify your data and increase your GRESB score

If you’re already automating and tracking your ESG data through a central hub like Measurabl, then you are well above competitors in providing accurate, transparent information to stakeholders. Putting your ESG performance to the test by submitting data through benchmarks like GRESB can also boost your company’s reputation even further in the eyes of stakeholders.

However, as companies’ ESG claims are under heightened scrutiny due to greenwashing concerns, it’s crucial that stakeholders can trust where your data is coming from and verify its accuracy.

Through its Data Assurance service, Measurabl offers customers the ability to have their ESG data verified or assured through an independent third party. Third-party reviews check the veracity of ESG data so investors and stakeholders can trust a company’s disclosures are accurate. Taking this additional step can help you identify issues in your reporting methodology and find gaps in underlying data, which can help you course correct and improve your data quality in the near future.

What is data assurance?

Data assurance is a standard data check process that applies a specific standard for sustainability reporting, known as AA1000AS. Data assurance must be performed by an accredited third-party auditor.

There are two levels of assurance. Moderate assurance is a less detailed level of assurance and is often applied for annual ESG disclosures. High assurance provides more detailed review of data and processes often held to the same standards as financial assurance.

What’s in it for real estate owners?

Going the extra mile and getting your ESG data assured can have tangible benefits for your portfolio, your reputation, and ultimately, your bottom line. With data assurance, you can:

  • Satisfy stakeholder demands
  • Improve the quality and integrity of your corporate disclosures
  • Uncover errors and protect yourself from being accused of greenwashing
  • Ensure you have an accurate baseline to measure the success of your ESG efforts
  • Increase your annual GRESB score

Why should I have my data assured through Measurabl?

The answer to this question is twofold. First, if your energy, water, and waste data is already stored in Measurabl, then the majority of your work is already complete. Once all of the environmental data from the previous 12 months is ready for our qualified service providers to review, they work to certify the data is accurate and provide a final assurance statement to be included as evidence in GRESB and other benchmarks. They also provide expert recommendations for how to improve your data quality and collection practices.

By assuring your data through Measurabl, you also save valuable time researching and  comparing rates from other contractors. That’s because Measurabl has already done the legwork for our customers: We’ve researched, vetted, and verified our service partners, so you don’t have to worry about contracting with a vendor that doesn’t meet your standards. We’ve also secured market-competitive rates to ensure you receive the best quality work for the best price. And we guarantee a positive outcome, from initial communication to successful project completion.

What does the process look like, and when should I sign up?

We start with a 30-minute introductory call with our Data Assurance team to gather some basic information and walk customers through the details of the process. The assurance process itself takes roughly two to three months, depending on data readiness, data completeness, and the time it takes for customers to respond to needs and requests. With so many customers preparing to report to GRESB at the end of June, February or March is the best time to start the process.
