Preparing for GRESB Reporting Season 2025: Tips from the Measurabl Team

As a Founding Partner of the GRESB Data Quality Working Group, Measurabl has been at the forefront of data excellence for over a decade. As one of GRESB’s largest and most experienced global partners, we’ve helped industry leaders and first-time reporters navigate the complexities of the GRESB standard, turning sustainability goals into measurable outcomes.

Our customer-first approach provides the technology, support, and guidance needed to ensure your data is investment-grade and ready for reporting. As highlighted in our recent blog, effective reporting begins with reliable data, but sustained performance requires a commitment to high-quality data management.

In this second installment of our GRESB and reporting best practices series, we explore strategies for consistent performance and continued success. We spoke with Margaux Nouat (Senior Manager, Account Management – EMEA), Art Bath (Senior Product Manager), and Clare Mason (Senior Director, Customer Delivery) to uncover the key factors for excelling in GRESB reporting, whether you’re just starting out or are a long-term reporter.

Q: What strategies or actions led to GRESB success in 2024?

Margaux: “Success requires a year-round approach to data management, a process Measurabl’s platform makes seamless. Taking time to address anomalies early helps avoid last-minute issues. For multi-year reporters, it’s crucial to analyze last year’s scores, identify areas for improvement, and leverage score debriefs provided by Measurabl to guide their strategy.”

Q: When should customers start preparing for GRESB, and what are the most important first steps?

Margaux: “Start as early as possible! Our process started in late 2024 with preliminary data reviews and planning. Starting in February, we will host webinars and individual sessions to outline action plans for each fund, followed by regular check-ins to address missing data and align with GRESB requirements. The bulk of the preparation happens from February through May, with submission wrapping up in June.”

Q: What data challenges do customers face, and how can they overcome them?

Margaux: ”Relying on one-time annual data imports creates unnecessary time pressure. Late or incomplete data is another challenge. Tools like Connect and API integration simplify data collection, while our automated accuracy checks flag inconsistencies early.”

Q: What are the most common mistakes in the GRESB process, and how can customers avoid them?

Art: “The most common mistake is not prioritizing data accuracy. We understand that accurate reporting begins with high-quality data, so we’ve developed tools and processes to help clients avoid these pitfalls. We help customers do thorough data accuracy reviews, flagging inconsistencies through our automated systems or manual checks. Our newly launched Data Manager takes data accuracy to the next level. It incorporates advanced features like Quality Check and Outlier Detection, powered by machine learning, to identify anomalies such as duplicate readings, unusually high costs, or low usage. These tools also flag gaps caused by missing meter readings and provide actionable suggestions to resolve them. Our customers will have more control over how their data is reported, reducing errors and ensuring the most favorable presentation of their performance.”

Q: How is Measurabl evolving to meet the needs of GRESB reporters for 2025?

Art: “In addition to our focus on data accuracy, we’re continuously refining our platform to meet the evolving needs of GRESB reporters. Our new features help reduce time-consuming tasks, such as manual tabulation of water reuse metrics and reporting fuel usage. These updates ensure that your reports are precise and aligned with GRESB’s evolving standards.

While the platform’s interface related to GRESB won’t undergo major changes this year, we’ve implemented key behind-the-scenes enhancements to further streamline your experience. These include improvements to data modeling and transformations, which will result in the most accurate and favorable quantitative data we’ve ever delivered, and give you greater control and flexibility over how your data is processed and presented.

Our goal is to make the process as seamless as possible. By transforming raw data into reportable formats with minimal manual adjustments, we’re reducing the effort required from our clients. In 2025, automation will play a bigger role, giving customers more power to decide how their data is reported while ensuring compliance with GRESB’s increasing scrutiny.”

In short, what this means: less effort and time on your part, and better, measurable results.”

Q: What can customers focus on to improve their GRESB scores, and how can methodology changes affect results?

Clare: “Improving your GRESB score starts with ensuring that your data is complete, consistent, and accurately reflects your portfolio’s performance. It’s also important to stay on top of GRESB’s evolving methodology, as scoring changes can affect your results.

For example, last year’s shifts around building certifications impacted many participants, but these changes typically stabilize or improve scores over time. First-time reporters can expect their scores to improve as their ESG strategies mature and align more closely with GRESB’s criteria. Analyzing past performance, setting benchmarks, and tracking progress are key to identifying areas that need attention and improvement.”
